Loving Asmat Culture

Loving and preserving Asmat culture is instilled in children from an early age.

School children and teachers must wear facin (Asmat headbands made from sago shoots and cassowary feathers) every Monday, and wear noken (typical Asmat bags made from woven sago shoots) every Thursday.

In the picture, 45 children from PAUD Karya Kasih 2 Per and students from SD Inpres Per are seen wearing facin on Monday, March 17, 2025 and students from SD Inpres Per are wearing noken on Thursday, March 19, 2025.

This activity is in line with the program launched by the Asmat Regency Government.

New & Suitable Clothes Distribution

Distribution of new and suitable clothes in Kapi village. Of the 34 cloth sacks that Ragats sent, only 6 sacks were distributed.

Distributing clothes to remote villages also has its problems.

Like one of the neighboring villages on the seafront, it is quite far from Kapi village. Currently. it's big wave season and to go there you need a lot of fuel.

The remaining clothes that Ragats sent will be distributed in stages, considering that carrying the sacks from Agats to Kapi, which is located 3 hours from Agats, requires a lot of fuel and waiting for the weather to be safe.

Visiting And Praying For People of Per Village

Sister Modesta Samangun DSY as principal of PAUD Karya Kasih 2 Per village accompanied by PAUD Tutor Mrs. Santi, Mrs. Magda and Mrs. Rufina visited and prayed for several sick people of Per village. Sister Modesta also gave Holy Communion to the sick. This visit was carried out in between her meeting with all PAUD tutors in Per village to plan the 2025 program.

Recycled Christmas Decorations

The people of Per village have started a movement to care about plastic waste since August 2024. Children, teenagers and parents are involved and enthusiastic about collecting plastic waste which they clean and put in used plastic bottles of mineral water.

In the Christmas celebrations on 25 December 2024, plastic waste bottles were used to make Christmas manger and Christmas trees, adding to the excitement of Christmas celebrations in Per Village.

Christmas Visit

Toward Christmas holiday, in order to give enthusiasm to the students, Feni and Alince's parents visited the Salus Populi dormitory today.

They were welcomed by Sister Elda, Sister Leoni and Mrs. Elis. The students were so happy to meet their parents. Sister Elda and Sister Leoni also provided advice and encouragement to the two students and their families.

New Shoes Distributions

Distribution of shoes to 10 villages as Christmas gifts from 8 - 14 December 2024 for children participating in online classes. The total number of shoes distributed was 450 pairs. Pictures are at Yepem, Yamas, Komor, Per villages.

The village of Per, Asmat hosted a number of events around Christmas and New Year's, such as volleyball matches between elementary school and adolescent girls, as a form of entertainment for the locals.

Clothes Distribution

Today the distribution of clothes for elementary school children in Bayun village took place at the Bayun parish rectory.

Clothes are distributed right on target, they really need it. All the clothes sent by Ragats are very suitable to wear and make them happy.

A total of 82 children received clothes today.

“Managing Family Finance” Online Class

On October 26 2023, Ragats held an online workshop on Managing Family Finances.

The aim of holding this workshop is to educate participants on how to manage their family finances so that they can become a prosperous family.

After the workshop participants must carry out an analysis of their respective family/personal finances.

Furthermore, if all components in the form of assets/debts/income/expenses have been managed optimally, and additional income is felt, then group economic activities will be formed which are expected to increase personal/group/local community income.

This workshop was presented by Mrs. Nita Ruslim (ex PricewaterhouseCoopers Partner), an auditor who is an expert in analyzing company financial reports.

SEPTEMBER 2023 | AGATS-ASMAT

New and Appropriate Clothing Program

Program to collect new and suitable clothing in July 2023 to be given to communities in villages in Agats-Asmat, Papua, in collaboration with the Ambiente Community.

426 sacks of new and suitable clothing arrived in Agats at the beginning of September.

Some clothes have started to be distributed. This photo shows the distribution of these clothes in Agats town in the Agats rubbish dump area and also in Ewer village.

In the city of Agats, the distribution was coordinated by Pastor Yulius OSC assisted by his fellow soldiers on September 18 2023. In Ewer the distribution on September 23 was coordinated by Sister Modesta DSY.

Distribution will still be carried out in various corners of the village. The implementation will be coordinated by Pastor Robert Hia OSC.

A beautiful Sunday for our dear friends at Uwus.

Last Thursday, donations from Jakarta arrived at Agats. Toothpaste, sandals, suitable clothes, snacks and others have been received with joy. Thank you brothers and sisters for your kindness which put smiles on their faces.
