Feny And Alince Going To Timika
Today Feni and Alince, students from Per village have entered the Salus Populi dormitory in Timika. They will attend YPPK St. Bernardus, Timika starting July 11, 2024 with a scholarship from Ragats.
We hope that their learning journey outside Asmat will run smoothly and be successful.

Alja Arnoldus Jenci Arriving At Cor Jesu High School, Malang
Alja Arnoldus Jenci, a student who graduated from YPPK Agats Middle School who received a scholarship from Ragats, accompanied by Father Robert Hia, OSC has entered the Cor Jesu Malang dormitory today.
Alja will study high school at Cor Jesu Malang starting in the 2024 school year. Hopefully this will be the first step for Alja's success in pursuing education.
Alja is very happy with his new dormitory and school and promises not to waste this opportunity.

Finding New Students
Mrs. Rosa, accompanied by Father Vesto Pr. are going around Bayun Village looking for children who are not in school yet to register them for kindergarten. Many elementary school age children do not go to school because they live about 2-3 km from school (about 30 minutes walk).

New Outdoor Playground
New swing and seesaw for PAUD in Uwus have arrived. The children were very happy and immediately played. The game is made in turns and while learning to count.

Final Exam
20 students of Grade 6 at SD Inpres Per have finished their final exams. The development of SD Inpres Per was very good after Ragats placed teachers there.
Last year there were only 8 students taking the final exam from Per.

Illiteracy Eradication Program
As part of Ragats’ illiteracy eradication program, Per village is appointed to be the pilot project of the program.
Reading lessons for children in grades 1-4 are divided into 3 groups:
Does not recognize letters yet.
Not yet able to spell syllables.
Not yet fluent in reading.
For groups that are not yet familiar with the alphabet, we begin by coloring the vowels and connecting straight lines according to the alphabet.

The children in Per village were thrilled to receive backpacks and drawing tools from Ragats. The prize is a token of appreciation for their achievements in participating in the online drawing class. Some of their drawings were included in the Ragats 2024 calendar.

Career Day Webinar: “Sciences And Sports”
Today Ragats held a Career Day Webinar for students of YPPK Yan Smit High School, Agats. Today's webinar topic is about Sciences and Sports.
Sciences was presented by Ms. Lorina Handayani Ulag, a scientist at Biotechnology company, Nalagenetics. The Sport field was presented by Ms. Michelle Suryaputra, a triathlon, aquathlon, duathlon athlete, for PON 2024.
One of the questions asked by participants was: “Is there a scholarship pathway for studying sciences?”

Career Day Webinar: “Legal and Legal Profession”
Ragats in collaboration with Yayasan Pendidikan Persekolahan Katholik (YPPK), Diocese of Agats held the first session of the Career Day webinar series for high school and junior high school students in Agats. The objectives of the Career Day webinar were:
Open students' minds to the various professions available in the world of work.
Inform the education and skills required for these fields to achieve career success.
Share work experiences and career successes.
Today's Career Day had a legal theme: "Legal and Legal Profession". The webinar was attended by 64 high school students and 48 YPPK Yan Smith students. They were accompanied by 8 teachers, led by Father Benedict Bahawarin as the Leader of YPPK Yan Smith, Agats Diocese. The event took place from 12.00 - 14.00 WIT.
Career Day is something new to this school. Many questions were asked by the students, including:
What are deeds and international law?
The difference between civil and criminal law.
Is it possible to have studied law and still be a police/army officer?
The next Career Day will discuss among others: business, athletes, sciences, journalists, architecture.

Online English Classes
Today, October 5 2023, online English classes are starting to be held for children in Uwus, Per, Yepem, Ewer. The English classes were also attended by several middle and high school students situated in the city of Agats.
Online English lessons are taught by Mrs. Sri Yuliastuti from Jakarta.

Computer Classes
Elementary school children in the villages of Uwus, Ewer, Yepem, and Per are taking “Introduction to Computers” zoom class every Friday with teachers from Jakarta.
Today they learned to practice typing. They are very happy and enthusiastic about learning computers.
Considering the limited number of laptops/desktops, the devices are used interchangeably.

Ragats Scholarship Recipients
After going through written tests and interviews last Saturday, August 26, Didimus has successfully passed and started attending school at Kampus STK Merauke. Today marks his first day of school and we hope for the best in his studies.
Didimus is a recipient of the Ragats scholarship program alongside Maria Seigi, Melki, and Roslita.

Online Drawing Classes
Online drawing class activities via zoom has been running for a year in Per village. Children’s lines and strokes has improved immensely since their first class. They are also more explorative in the use of colors.
This online drawing class is guided by Mrs. Sisca Wungu from Jakarta.
Since September 2023, other villages (Uwus, Ewer, and Yepem) also join online drawing classes regularly.

New Teacher from Jakarta
Starting May 2022, Ragats provided a teacher (relocated from Jakarta) to stay in Per to support Taman Baca and after school activities (including sports) of the teenagers and children at Per.

Belajar Paket A, B, dan C
Since May 2022, learning “Paket A”, “Paket B”, and “Paket C” activities were already held in Per Village. Classes are held twice a week, attended by 15 study participants consisting of teenagers and parents.
